SOCI 325 Medical Sociology

This course will provide an in-depth introduction to the major conceptual frameworks of medical sociology and empirical research examining the social context of health, illness, and healing, as well as the organization and delivery of medical care and health care. The course challenges the notion that health outcomes are the product of "personal choices" alone and investigates the impacts of social and institutional variables on health behavior, with particular focus given to inequalities and social deterinants of health. 1 Unit
