EDUC 250 Teaching and Learning

Study of the pedagogical, developmental and cognitive components of teaching and learning in diverse classrooms. Provides a deeper understanding of the learning and behavior of students as well as individual and group differences including special populations such as exceptional, gifted and at-risk learners. With a focus on PreK-12 learners students will be able to explore cognitive and linguistic development evaluate different teaching strategies and assess how well they facilitates and motivate learning. EDUC 341 Ped & Curr Prin PK-8 Math

Examination of mathematics education curricular and instructional practices. Emphasis in placed on both mathematics content and methods for teaching elementary mathematics by exploring innovative teaching models that develop deeper understanding of content and support K-6 learning. EDUC 460 Classroom Management

Examination of a comprehensive knowledge base concerning best practices in instructional and behaviorial management. Areas of emphasis include structuring the classroom for success, planning for instruction, managing materials and equipment, and accessing and managing student and group behavior.(1/2) Lecture: 1.50 hrs/wk. 1/2 Unit

Examination of the processes and strategies necessary to teach effectively in the public or department approved, accredited independent school classroom: planning and implementing instruction, managing classrooms, and collaborating successfully with teachers, administrators, and parents.(1)Seminar: 1 hr/wk; Laboratory: Minimum 400 hours in schools. 1 Unit

Requisites

  • EDUC-380. Application by October 1, or March 1, Must be taken prior to taking this course.
  • passing score VCLA, passing score on Praxis II,
  • Backgorund check, 2.5 GPA (overall and major) and approval.
  • Must be taken concurrently with EDUC 460.
