Biography

Chad Morris is a Professor of Anthropology at Roanoke College. Dr. Morris has a B.S. from Centre College in Anthropology/Sociology and Biology, a M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Memphis and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Kentucky. He serves as co-coordinator of Roanoke College’s Anthropology Concentration and contributes to the College's programs in Public Health Studies and Sociology.  His current research agenda includes investigating and promoting community-driven means of improving rates of cancer screening in the Micronesian Republic of Palau. He has also worked alongside Roanoke College students and Palauan officials to conduct household and school-based research about dietary practice and public health promotion. Dr. Morris has additional research expertise in public health coalition development and practice, indoor environmental health, cross-cultural perspectives on organ and tissue donation, immigrant access to health care, food and culture, urban and rural development initiatives, and global philanthropic traditions. He is a Fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology and serves as Treasurer of the National Association for the Practice of Anthropology. He is the 2013 recipient of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges Hiter Harris, Jr. Rising Star Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching and the 2014 recipient of the Roanoke College Dean's Award for Exemplary Service. He served as Director of Roanoke College's Honors Program from 2013-2021.
